Episode #92 - The Liberated Entrepreneur Nurse and Summit
This episode of the NP Business Matters Podcast discusses the Liberated Entrepreneur Nurse Summit (June 23-28, 2024) with founder Sharon Burch. We talk about what it is, why nurses and nurse practitioners (NPs) will want to attend, what you can expect, and more. I suspect, that other healthcare providers may also glean ideas and inspiration from this as well.
Please feel free to share this with your colleagues. They will thank you!

Why am I talking about Job Hunting with Renee Dahring?

Why indeed am I talking about job hunting instead of how to start a practice? The short answer is because it matters. In this episode, my guest, Renee Dahring, APRN, FNP, FAANP, and I address a growing concern within the nurse practitioner (NP) community: the challenge of finding employment for both new and seasoned NPs. While I usually focus on topics related to NP practice ownership, it’s ext...

Not our usual topic of discussion, but an important one never-the-less - self-publishing. Why? I've been advised for years that having your own book was something that all business owners should do, that it helps establish you as an expert in your field, and this idea is just as true for clinicians as it is with other types of business owners. Since this is not my area of expertise, allow me to...

    Hello, I have been a NP x 2 years. Currently working as W2 with a private doctor. I requested to change to 1099 and the doctor told me i need a NP103. Is that information accurate ? Do I need NP103 certification to work under 1099 ?

    • @NPBusiness
      @NPBusiness 2 місяці тому

      Unless something changed with 103, this is not true. Many NPs have worked and continue to work as both W2 and 1099. You may want to confirm that with CANP to be sure.

    Love this. Am a new FNP with approximately 20 years of experience. My first Masters was an MPH, 6 years ago. I am currently doing some research on a private practice that i can run while also keeping my current position as faculty. Am interested in EHR and EMR suggestions. Do you have any?

    • @NPBusiness
      @NPBusiness 4 місяці тому

      You are not alone in that endeavor! EHR/EMR? My best recommendation is to make a list of what you really need (you may not need all the bells and whistles), what you'd like to have, and no-gos/dealbreakers. Then look at your budget. That will take several out of consideration. From there you can start trialing/sampling. Don't be swayed by things you don't need. It's an individual choice, so take your time to find one that works FOR you. Good luck!

    I recently went to a gyn appointment (in NYC) where they wanted me to sign a 3-page document that included privacy notices, my permission to be treated and within it, what would be the ABN notice. The ABN should have been separate from everything else in my opinion. I felt how they presented it wasn't legal. There was no mention of anything they were going to do at the appointment that might not be covered by Medicare and Medigap. This to my mind was a blank check for them to do anything they wanted and I refused to sign it. (The doctor saw me anyway.)

      That depends on the individual. It really is about you, how much experience you are able to get as an NP, your niche areas, etc. It will differ from person to person. If I was to give it a #, I'd say for the NP who has plenty of experience as an RN first, to give it 3-5 years minimum. But again, it depends.

    I appreciated your comments (confirmation!) about the fact that ADvantage programs do NOT pay the same rates, nor have same timely filing period/response as Medicare... I've discovered this with my long term care patients; and some subscribers, even within the same company-- have DIFFERENT rate coverages (for instance, a 99349 might pay very differently for one patient versus another, who both have same company but different Advantage plan/contract within that company!)--this is difficult! Barbara, may I share this with a Medicare discussion group??

    If I work for an FQHC where I am forced to take Medicare, but I want to open a side hustle that does cash only, can I just refer my Medicare pt's out to other providers, or is there no way to do that? The side hustle would be a niche practice and would not be a PCP office.

    • @NPBusiness
      @NPBusiness Рік тому

      Believe I answered this in the group. You are taking a risk. Occasionally, a MCR recipient will still send their invoice/receipt into Medicare to see if they can get reimbursed for any part of the visit. If that happens, you would be out of compliance.
